Product news: The Polygon Siskiu T is the latest bike in the Indonesian manufacturer's portfolio. The 140mm trail bike comes in 27,5″ or 29″ depending on the size of the rider, has 140mm of travel and will be available at a great price under €3.000.
Outside of the gravity scene, the name Polygon should only be known to a few fans in this country. However, the Indonesian manufacturer is anything but a 'small fish' and is extremely popular and well-known, especially in Asia and North America. As one of the few major manufacturers nowadays, Polygon also relies on its own production facilities in Indonesia, where all frames are sizzled exactly according to the specifications and wishes of the engineers and designers. More than a million bikes roll off the assembly line there every year - quite impressive.
With the Siskiu T, Polygon has a new aluminum trail bike for 2018 in its range that scores with modern geometry, two wheel sizes, well thought-out equipment and an extremely attractive price. The name Siskiu is not entirely new; the Siskiu D has been around for a few years, and with 120mm of travel and a relaxed geometry, it appeals more to touring riders.
The new Polygon Siskiu T is completely different: It clearly falls into the trail bike category that is so popular at the moment and offers 140mm of travel at the rear and 140mm or 150mm at the front. When it comes to the wheel size, you go your own way: The Siskiu T is available with 27,5″ wheels as well as with larger 29″ tires – but not in all frame sizes. The ulterior motive is obvious and logical. 27,5″ is available for the frame sizes S and M, 29″ for M, L and XL – according to the Polygon designers, the large wheels make little sense on the small S frame, while the more compact 650b wheels are for the big boys or girls are not optimal. The 29″ model comes with a 140mm suspension fork, while the 27,5″ version comes with Polygon 150mm.
The geometry is decidedly modern and – at least on paper – quite fun to read. The magic formula 'long and flat' is also followed with Polygon, at least in part, and it is certainly a good idea. The head angle is quite slack at 66°, but the steep seat angle helps when pedaling. With 450mm reach in size L, you don't get too extreme in terms of frame length, but you stay modern. The chainstays are kept pleasantly short and promise a lot of agility.
Initially, the Polygon Siskiu T will be available in two configurations, both of which are well below the €3.000 mark with an overall extremely solid configuration. This is a pleasant change in times when a mountain bike can easily cost 5 figures.
If you still have to make a few compromises in terms of chassis and brakes with the Polygon Siskiu T 7 entry-level model, there really isn’t much to complain about with the T 8 – and that for just under €2.700. So you don't have to hide from mail order prices. At 14,5 or 14,7kg, the new Polygons are not for lightweight fans.
