cycling: Moscon faces 6 months ban for violent behavior

24 January 2018 by Michael Behringer

Moscon

Cycling: Gianni Moscon (Sky) could soon be in trouble. It is not yet entirely clear what exactly happened on October 3, 2017 and whether the evidence for a ban is sufficient. If convicted, Gianni Moscon faces a ban of up to six months for violent behavior. In any case, the victim Sebastian Reichenbach (FDJ) made his statement. Now the UCI Disciplinary Committee will probably decide.

Moscon is said to have pushed Reichenbach off his bike on purpose

Came on October 3, 2017 Sebastian Reichenbach fell at the Tre Valli Varesine one-day race. Immediately after the race it became known that the French team FDJ the Italian Gianni moscon accused. The fallen Swiss claims that he deliberately pushed him off his bike on a descent. There doesn't seem to be any video footage of this action, but some drivers - like Sebastian Reichenbach - have already given their testimony about this case. Gianni Moscon was suspended by his Sky team for six weeks after this suspicion became known. The Italian himself, however, continues to deny any guilt. With the new UCI President David Lappartient announcing that he would investigate the case, things now seem to be gaining momentum again.

David Lappartient:
“I am following the Moscon affair very closely. If, after racially insulting a rider, he later pushes one of his teammates off his bike, that has nothing to do with cycling.”

The crash has been caused by the dangerous behavior of one of his opponents, Gianni Moscon.

Moscon defends its reputation

The Moscon-Reichenbach case is now with the UCI Disciplinary Committee. The rules state that a violent driver can be banned for between one and six months. Since the Italian's guilt has not yet been proven, such a punishment does not seem to be possible at the moment. In any case, he himself is determined to defend his reputation. This is also urgently needed, because the Sky professional has not had the best reputation for some time. The origin of this dispute with Sebastian Reichenbach is a few months ago. Then he should Kevin Reza (FDJ) have racially insulted. Reichenbach reported this, which is why many now suspect that the accused wanted to take revenge on the Swiss. Now time will tell what decision the UCI will come to after hearing everyone involved. So Team Sky will have to wait and see in another case...

I'm very sorry to hear that @ Reichenbach_seb was hurt after there was an accident in today's race. I wish him the best recovery.
