Cycling: David Lappartient currently has to fight on all fronts, mostly about doping. The UCI President also won the election last year because he promised to fight motor doping. Now he has announced that he will present five new technologies and initiatives in March that could finally eliminate the problem.
Motor doping should be impossible
The UCI actually wanted to present the latest achievements in the fight against mechanical doping in January. The date has now been postponed: In mid-March, David Lappartient will present the technologies and initiatives.
David Lappartient:
"I can tell you: We are ready and we know what we are doing. We will present five different initiatives and technologies in the fight against motor doping. We will continue to use the current system until mid-March. Our ideas will be able to be used at the top levels, but we will try to deliver something cost-effective for the national federations as well. With these technologies, I believe there will be no possibility of cheating.”
Does motor doping even exist?
David Lappartient's predecessor, Brian Cookson, didn't take the issue of mechanical doping seriously. Many suspect that this is why he was voted out of office. However, many cycling fans also believe that there has never been any motor doping in professional cycling. We can't know for sure, though. What is clear is that the suspicious incidents in road cycling so far are probably all unfounded. We already raised this question in December with our discussion topic "Is there motor doping in cycling?"
