Cycling: Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) just missed his second win at WorldTour level. The German sprinter has to settle for second place after a strong finish on the third stage of the Tour Down Under. Only Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) was faster today. Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott) defended his lead in the overall standings with third place.
Dlamini & Bowden tirelessly
Today's third stage of the Tour Down Under was shortened by 26 kilometers due to the extreme heat in Australia. Now there was only about 120 kilometers to go from Glenelg to Victor Harbor. But even this should not be easy because of the temperatures around 40 degrees. Unfortunately could not go to the start Steve Morabito (Groupama-FDJ). The Swiss fell yesterday, put his shoulder back in place and crossed the finish line. "Same procedure as every day" was also seen today in terms of outliers. Seized again Nickolas Dlamini (Dimension Data) and Scott Bowden (UniSA-Australia) the escape. And again - who would have expected otherwise - Dlamini secured the full number of points in the mountains classification. The South African has thus won all three mountain classifications so far.

Bora-hansgrohe and Katusha-Alpecin pay attention to the intermediate sprints
The peloton fought hard again for the bonus seconds in the intermediate sprints. Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe) secured #3 place in the first classification, while teammate Jay McCarthy secured the last second in the second evaluation. However, there was also second place up for grabs as Dlamini dropped back into the peloton. Nathan Hass (Katusha-Alpecin) could therefore be happy about two seconds.

Elia Viviani significantly faster - Phil Bauhaus strong second
Even though the last remaining escapee, Scott Bowden, fought back bravely, he didn't stand a chance against the sprinter teams today either. Something similar had to be done shortly before the goal Tiago Machado (Katusha-Alpecin). The Portuguese tried an attack, but he too was caught early. So it came again to a mass sprint, in which André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) unfortunately played no role. Quite different Mitchelton-Scott: Caleb ewan was driven perfectly into position. But the little Australian didn't have enough power today. Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors), on the other hand, came racing from far behind with a lot of steam. On his rear wheel let himself Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) drag along. Our man from category 5 to watch fought his way past Caleb Ewan in second place with a courageous tiger leap. But there was no herb against Elia Viviani today.
