General: White Style 2018: Out after the quarterfinals – after the sun came the fog

29 January 2018 by Andrew Waldera

MTB News: The FMB World Tour started the 2018 season in Saalfelden Leogang with the only freeride mountain bike contest on snow To fight a duel man against man and thus to claim for the next round. After the initial sunshine, the event unfortunately had to be canceled after the quarter-finals due to the rising fog.

Those responsible, the riders and the spectators had certainly imagined the course of the White Style 2018 differently. For the first time, the winner of the freeride mountain bike contest on snow should prevail in the KO system - an exciting concept that promises even more excitement. Initially everything went according to plan. In bright sunshine, both the training and the qualification took place on the spectacular stage. Of the twenty riders from six nations, 16 riders qualified for the final in the evening. Already in the qualification the spectators and judges got to see tricks like double flips and 720s. Marcel Durbau of Spain even pulled an extremely sleek backflip Superman seatgrab up his sleeve. So the omens for the evening were very good.

The round of 2018 started with the sun going down under floodlights. However, fog was also gathering, which was increasingly blocking the riders' view. Those responsible for the event reacted correctly and stopped the contest after the quarterfinals. So the last four riders still had to hold out. Visibility improved after about half an hour, but the remaining drivers no longer wanted to compete. Because a fair rating was not possible under these circumstances, the organizer decided to cancel the White Style XNUMX.
