cycling: Matthias Krizek also just missed the first victory for Austria

24. February 2018 by Michael Behringer

Krizek

Cycling: Austria is still waiting for the first victory in the 2018 cycling season. Matthias Krizek (Felbermayr-Simplon Wels) almost succeeded yesterday at the Tour of Antalya. The 29-year-old was part of the first group of six and was only defeated by Wim Kleiman (Monkey Town) in the end.

Austria strongly represented at the Tour of Antalya

We write at the end of February. The Austrians are still waiting for their first victory. Even on the second stage of the Tour of Antalya it was just not enough. In Turkey, however, the Austrian drivers and teams presented themselves in really outstanding form. It was true that the 24-year-old Dutchman won the day Wim Kleiman (Monkey Town), but in the first group of six, most of them spoke with an Austrian accent. Matthew Krizek (Felbermayr-Simplon Wels) was #2, his compatriot Markus Wildauer (Tirol Cycling Team) finished fourth. The German was stuck in between Johannes Schinnagel, who is also active for the Tirol Cycling Team.

This results in the same order in the overall ranking. Krizek is four seconds behind Kleiman. Schinnagel is six seconds behind and Wildauer nine. Drivers from Austria have finished second four times this year. So it's only a matter of time before the 1 finally lights up.
