Cycling: Parallel to Paris-Nice and the Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn two one-day races were held today. The thrilling GP Industria & Artigianato went to Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida), while Rémi Cavagna prevailed at Dwars door West-Vlaanderen. At the Belgian one-day race, Team Quick-Step once again set the tone. Three riders from the Belgian cycling team ended up in the top 4.
Matej Mohoric wins exciting GP Industria & Artigianato
In 1977 the one-day race GP Industria & Artigianato was held for the first time. The 41st edition of the race took the drivers over 199,2 kilometers through Tuscany today. Many riders who started at Strade Bianche yesterday were also there today. Eight kilometers before the finish, Rafael Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) made the decisive attack. Together with four other professionals, he was able to pull away slightly in the last uphill sector. Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida) broke away from this group on the fast descent, while the others were picked up again by a decimated field. Although Marco Canola (Nippo-Vini Fantini-Europa Ovini) tried to close the gap, he was too late. The 23-year-old Slovenian Matej Mohoric celebrates his first victory in the 2018 cycling season Strade Bianche in eleventh place.

Rémi Cavagna crowns dominance of Quick-Step Floors
The Three Days of West Flanders has been held as a one-day race since last year. On the way from Nieuwpoort to Ichtegem, 189,3 kilometers had to be covered today. Traditionally at Dwars door West-Vlaanderen we see an exciting battle between the sprint teams and the breakaways. Cobblestone passages and short, toxic climbs characterize the character of the race - just typical of Belgian cycling. After the first breakaway group of the day was caught far from the finish line, the decisive escape could be observed. With Florian Sénéchal and Rémi Cavagna, two riders from the Quick-Step Floors team pulled away together with Frederik Frison (Lotto Soudal). While the trio harmonized well despite the imbalance, the peloton reacted much too statically. The tactics then began in the last five kilometers, with Frison being the clear loser of the gimmick. Quick-Step Floors was able to achieve numerical superiority – as it did a few days ago Le Samyn – convert into a double victory. Cavagna won ahead of Sénéchal and Frison. Fabio Jakobsen rounded off the top result of the Belgian team with fourth place.
