News: According to media reports, a mountain biker's overheated disc brake triggered a forest fire in Austria on Sunday. On an unofficial downhill run on Vorarlberg's Muttersberg, a Swiss man put his bike in a meadow where a dry tuft of grass is said to have caught fire, a police spokesman said.
Despite the attempts of the cyclist and his two companions to extinguish it, the fire quickly spread in the community of Nüziders in the difficult-to-access area. The mountain biker himself called the police after his unsuccessful attempts to put it out. The flames were brought under control with two helicopters, but 146 emergency services were still busy with post-extinguishing and control work until the early evening. The Muttersbergbahn, a cable car in the immediate vicinity of the fire, had to be temporarily closed.
