Spectrum: On March 12, 2018, the time has come again and with Lidl, the first discounter starts the bicycle season. We have repeatedly tested the products over the past few years and examined them closely. We'll tell you which accessories or which Lidl bike offers are worth going to the discounter for.
Crivit assembly stand
Available: Online-Shop and branch
Price: € 24,99
It has long since ceased to be an insider tip among bikers - the notorious "Lidl assembly stand". For €25 you get decent quality, which is definitely sufficient for occasional screwdriver work. The stand of the assembly stand is good and can also handle heavier bikes. The only problem is the clamping of the actual holding arm, which tends to twist due to the lack of a catch. Positive: When not in use, the Crivit assembly stand can be easily folded up and stowed away to save space.
Conclusion: Sufficient and inexpensive for occasional screwdrivers, but e-bike riders and frequent screwdrivers should spend more money.
Crivit lighting sets
Available: Only in Online-Shop
Price: €14,99 / €19,99
Also an evergreen among the Lidl bicycle offers: the battery lighting sets. We have tested these several times in the past and even if they differ slightly from year to year, our conclusion was always the same; Definitely recommendable for the asking price, but if you value high luminosity, even illumination and a homogeneous light field, you will probably be disappointed. New this year is the set with an integrated brake light, which is probably triggered via an accelerometer. All lamps have integrated rechargeable batteries and can be charged via micro-USB.
Conclusion: Perfect for city bikes. The lamps are cheap and comply with the StVZO. You shouldn't expect particularly high quality or concentrated lighting power, but they should be sufficient to "be seen" in most situations.
Bicycle tubes
Available: Online-Shop and branch
Price: €2,99 (double pack)
Two bicycle inner tubes for €3? Pretty good price we would say! It is also commendable that the tubes are now also available with French valves and also for 29″ tires. Due to the very high weight (approx. ~200g per tube) and the questionable puncture protection, we would only see the Lidl tubes as an emergency replacement.
Conclusion: Heavy, but cheap! Perfect to keep in reserve as an emergency hose. If you value low weight and reliable puncture protection, you should spend a few euros more and go for brand quality.
Crivit tool case
Available: Only in Online-Shop
Price: € 24,99
It's always a problem with ready-made tool cases: the sets often contain most of the tools you need, but if the worst comes to the worst, that one key is missing. In addition, the quality of the tools in the cheap cases is often quite poor, which means that screw heads, toothing and, ultimately, the mood when screwing screws suffer. Why are we still listing the Crivit tool case in our tips? Simply because it is extremely cheap at €25 and the most common tools are included in the compilation. The tool is probably not optimal for daily screwdriving tasks, but you can simply put the case in the trunk, for example, if you want to repair something on vacation or on a trip.
Conclusion: If you screw a lot and regularly, you are certainly better off with high-quality tools that you put together yourself. Worth considering as a backup tool set for the bus, car or holiday home.
Cleaning and care products
Available: In store only
Price: €2,99 each
Also known from previous years are the various care and cleaning products for €2,99 each. In 2018, in addition to a cleaning spray, there is also chain cleaner and oil. These are often available under various other names in the local hardware store - but there for prices around 5 €. It can't keep up with the big names like Muc-Off or Motorex, but it's certainly not a bad choice for occasional home use.
Conclusion: Good and inexpensive choice for occasional use at home. If you are looking for a thorough and quick cleaning with regular mud packs, you are probably better off with the "usual suspects".
