Cycling: Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) is slowly getting hot. The German sprinter won today's sixth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in a bunch sprint. World Champion Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) once again came in second and was able to demonstrate his cycling skills impressively when he first miraculously escaped a mass crash and then rode back to the front and was almost able to win the stage.
Marcel Kittel sovereign, Peter Sagan unbelievable
The penultimate stage of Tirreno-Adriatico belonged entirely to the sprinters. At the end of the day, the expected mass sprint took place in Fano. The stage was dominated by a breakaway group for a long time, with Marcus Burghardt (Bora-hansgrohe) only one man left at the end. The German champion defended himself bravely, but was placed relatively far from the finish. It didn't get any quieter in the peloton as a result.
With eight kilometers to go there was a mass crash that sprinter Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) self-inflicted by catching himself on the rear wheel of the man in front. Directly behind Gaviria was Peter Sagan. The world champion was somehow able to avoid a fall. Even a subsequent defect could not stop Sagan. The world champion drove back into the peloton, positioned himself perfectly on Marcel Kittel's rear wheel and sprinted to second place. Incomprehensible!
It's also unbelievable that Bora-hansgrohe finished second in four of the six stages. The German team is still waiting for a win. On the other hand, Marcel Kittel, who was able to win the sprint confidently, can already be happy about his second victory.
2nd win for @MarcelKittel in #TirrenoAdriatico. 2nd what @PetoSagan who had to come back after avoiding the crash. 3rd what @MaxRicheze. 3 wins for @KatushaCycling in 2018. pic.twitter.com/oCwkkfnZh1
