Cycling: Paris-Roubaix is considered the toughest cycling race in the world. It's not uncommon for the classic to have bad falls year after year. Unfortunately, Michael Goolaerts from the Veranda's Willems-Crelan team was hit particularly hard today.
Goolaerts had to be revived
The 22-year-old Belgian fell after around 100 kilometers in the second pavé section and became unconscious. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, Goolaerts suffered cardiac arrest and was revived on site by race doctors. He is currently in critical condition in the hospital.

Michael Goolaerts succumbs to his serious injuries
As the Vérandas Willems-Crelan team announced on Twitter late Sunday evening, Michael Goolaerts died in hospital.
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend and colleague Michael Goolaerts. He died at 22.40pm Sunday night at a hospital in Lill. All attempts to save him were unsuccessful.”
