MTB sport: Veli Losinj – a small, sleepy village in Croatia, which is also being overrun by the DH elite this year, not only by the juniors as before. We were there armed with cameras and captured some impressions. In the end, Aaron Gwin and Myriam Nicole, two of the big favorites, were on top of the podium.
The track is considered the shortest, but also the hardest in this year's DH circus. Right at the start, the wheat is separated from the chaff. The loose stones are so incredibly sharp - nobody really wants to fall here. Hence the impressed faces and the tense mood of the track walks. Nevertheless - the flair of this beautiful island, the sea, the good food and the nice people ensure that the drivers are in a good mood despite the heavy battle of material on the mountain.
However, the many falls were less motivating, for example Claudio Caluori had to spend a night in the hospital after his track preview. In addition, Loic Bruni fell badly in training, so he did not complete his qualifying run.
All in all, an exciting start in picturesque surroundings.
