Product news: News from RockShox! The top XC and marathon fork SID gets some technical innovations for this season, including the Charger 2 damping cartridge. In addition, the TwistLoc is a new way of triggering the fork and damper lockout from the handlebars.
For many years, the RockShox SID has been a safe bet for the XC racers out there - whether ambitious amateur athletes or world champions. For the 2019 model year, the Americans are giving their lightest fork offspring a comprehensive technical update: Thanks to DebonAir, the suspension has more volume and a correspondingly more sensitive response behavior, and on the damping side all SID variants are equipped with the new Charger 2 cartridge. Also new: Two of the 29″ versions will be available with 120mm travel in the future. What is new is the so-called dig valve, which enables an even balance in the transition area from high to low-speed compression of the compression stage and is intended to prevent sagging in the middle suspension travel.
All variants of the RockShox SID 2019 are only available as a boost, for 29″ and 27,5″ and from May.
RockShox SID World Cup
The field of application of the SID World Cup is already in the name: Maybe not only in the world elite, but it was developed and built for just this purpose and that's where it feels most comfortable. At just over 1.500g, it is lighter than its direct predecessor fork. As usual, the lightweight comes with a crown and a shaft made of carbon - the magnesium dropouts are new, from which you could wrest a few grams. Technically, there's the full Rock Shox chapel: DebonAir air spring on one side and the Charger 2 cartridge on the other. In the case of the latter, in addition to the rebound stage, the compression stage can also be set externally. The new top fork is priced at €1.109-1.199 - depending on the equipment.
Weight: 1.537g
wheel sizes: 27,5″ and 29″
Suspension travel: 100 mm
Price: € 1.109 - € 1.199
RockShox SID RLC
On the inside, the SID RLC corresponds to the top model: DebonAir and Charger 2 with external adjustment of rebound and compression are also available here. Not quite as light, but the exterior is a bit more robust: the crown and casting are not made of carbon here, so the RLC variant also weighs almost 100g more. In return, there is an optional 120mm spring travel and the fork is a bit friendlier to the wallet: 869-939€ are due here.
Weight: 1.618 - 1.637g
wheel sizes: 27,5″ and 29″
Suspension travel: 100mm / 120mm
Price: € 869-939
RockShox SID RL
The RL variant offers the cheapest entry into the SID world at €669-739. While the DebonAir air spring is similar to its slightly more expensive siblings, there are small differences in damping. Although the new Charger 2 cartridge is also used here, you have to do without the external compression adjustment. Here, too, there is the option of 29″ and a full 120mm of spring travel.
Weight: 1.596 - 1.615g
wheel sizes: 27,5″ and 29″
Suspension travel: 100mm / 120mm
Price: € 669-739
TwistLoc
With the RockShox TwistLoc there is also a completely new product. A lockout that can be activated from the handlebars is still important for many riders, and not just in the XC and marathon areas. In times of one-by drives and clean cockpits, the conventional levers are often not particularly good in terms of looks and ergonomics. With the TwistLoc there is now a new option: Based on the in-house Twist Shifter, the fork and damper can be locked with a courageous turn of the handle.
A short press on the switch integrated in the clamp frees the fork from its shackles. The TwistLoc has two outputs - this means that fullies can also control the fork and damper at the same time if desired.
The TwistLoc, which is only available for the left, weighs 54g and costs €120.
