Like no other brand, SE Bikes embodies the genes of BMX sports with an incomparable passion. With the OM-Duro 27,5"+, the cult manufacturer is celebrating its founder 'Old Man' Scot Breithaupt, who died in 2015. A bike that pays homage to one of the most important people in BMX history with its looks, geometry and of course the name.
SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5”+: Geometry and first impression
Both in terms of appearance and size, the SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5″+ is not too far removed from the BMX. In addition to the short top tube length of only 22,3", the rather steep steering angle of 71° is particularly noticeable. Another, very special number is also important: 4130. This special number undoubtedly helped shape BMX sport. Thanks to 4130 Cr-Mo, many things became lighter and stronger in the early 1980s compared to Hi-Ten steel.
So it is not surprising that the frame of the OM-Duro 27,5"+ is also made of 4130 Cr-Mo. Attachments such as the handlebars, the fork and the crank are also made of Cr-Mo. The fork not only deserves increased attention from a historical point of view: Traditionally, a cult landing gear fork is also installed on this bike from SE Bikes! The smart bike is available in a standard size and in size XL. For 899,00 euros, the buyer receives an impressive bike with a lot of historical background.
The SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5"+ in practice
Whether skate park, dirt park, city or a small tour, everything is possible with the SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5″+! The OM-Duro certainly does not master all disciplines to perfection, but it manages the balancing act in an impressive way. During a bike tour with friends and family, you can quickly knock out a tabletop in the skate park as you drive by or simply cruise comfortably to the café. The 31" wide handlebars and the 3" T-Fatty SE Racing tires increase comfort both in the city and on shortcuts through the forest.
Only the saddle is less suitable for long distances. The rider is supported in his "work" by a successful selection of practice-oriented parts. Thanks to the SRAM GX 1×10, the 16,78 kg OM-Duro can be accelerated properly or pedaled comfortably through the world. The mechanical Tektro MD 280 disc brake with 160 mm brake discs at the front and rear is sufficient to reliably bring the large BMX to a standstill. The relatively high noise level of the tires acoustically suggests a high rolling resistance, but this is not really noticeable in practice.
SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5": Conclusion
Whether you sink some high-end downhillers on the Flow Country on the Geißkopf, do a lap in the skate park or do a 65-kilometer beer garden tour, the smile on your face is just as sure as the often puzzled looks of others. But it is also certain that the SE Bikes OM-Duro 27,5″+ is not a bike for everyone. Thanks to its diversity and playfulness, the large BMX presents itself as a "bike for (almost) everything".
