Radsportnews/Radbundesliga: With a win, the new Rad-Bundesliga starts for Team Lotto Kern-Haus just like the old one ended last year - Jonasrutsch was able to win the opening race in Düren and the team won the team classification.
At the start of the Rad-Bundesliga, the Lotto-Kern Haus team picked up where they left off last year. After 2017 kilometers around Düren, Jonasrutsch, winner of the youngsters’ classification, decided the sprint of a five-strong leading group in his favor and is therefore the first overall leader of the ten national racing series.
In accordance with the tactical specifications, the race was initially approached with caution. Small groups were able to break away from the field again and again, but they posed no danger and were quickly caught up again. Only on the last of the three Eifel laps did a group of 15 riders form with Joshua Huppertz and Jonasutsch. However, the breakaways did not harmonize, so that Jonas and four companions said goodbye to the front. The quintet started the last 28 kilometer lap in Kreuzau with a lead of 6,4 seconds. The field almost managed to catch up, but the leaders were able to save a mini lead to the finish. Jonas had the best legs and relegated the competitors Patrick Haller (Heizomat-rad-net) and Philipp Walsleben (P&S Team Thüringen) to the places.
In addition to the day's victory, Jonas also got the purple jersey of the overall leader of the cycling federal league and the green sprint jersey. Due to the good placement of Joshua, who was 2nd in the sprint of the field, the Lotto Kern-Haus team also leads the team ranking.
“A perfect start for us. Not only did we win the day, but we also got the leader's jersey and we also won the team classification." Team boss Florian Monreal.
