Cycling: If we look at the April cycling results, it is not difficult to find three highlights. In the month of the classics, viewers got to see some top races. Our favourites: Paris-Roubaix, the Flèche Wallonne and the Tour of the Basque Country, as well as the Tour de Romandie.
Peter Sagan: The world champion is finally celebrating at Paris-Roubaix
Almost every race works Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) as the favorite at the start. Also at Paris-Roubaix his name has always been mentioned first for years, but the Slovak has never won - until now! Because in April 2018, Peter Sagan was finally allowed to raise his hands to celebrate in the Roubaix velodrome. With a courageous attack far from the goal, he left all opponents standing. Also strong was Silvan Dillier (AG2R La Mondiale), who was in a leading group for a long time and in the end was the only one who was able to ride with Sagan to Roubaix. Certainly this day will remain in the memories of the Swiss as one of the cycling results.
Julian Alaphilippe: King Valverde dethroned at Flèche Wallonne
Actually, all experts agreed: Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) will Walloon Arrow can't be beat this year either. Despite the clear favorite role, the king was overthrown in April 2018. The Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) finally won the Mur de Huy easily ahead of the Spaniard. We should also mention the performance of Maximilian Schachmann (Quick-Step Floors). Alaphilippe's team-mate was in a leading group and drove up the Mur de Huy as a soloist. Only a few meters from the finish he was caught by the pack. In the end it was enough for a respectable eighth place.
Primoz Roglic: matured into a top driver in the Basque Country and in French-speaking Switzerland
Some puns can be played with Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo). The media authorities were almost forced to do so in April, because the journalists couldn't avoid it at least on two tours. The former ski jumper managed - pun intended - to make the leap to an absolute top classification. After winning the Tour of the Basque Country at the beginning of the month, he also triumphed at the Tour de Romandie a few days ago. He left some top drivers behind. His duel with Egan Bernal (Sky) on the fourth stage of the Tour de Romandie. After good results in ski jumping, Roglic is now also responsible for top cycling results - a special kind of career changer.
