Cycling: Georg Preidler (Groupama-FDJ) proved that his championship title last year was not a flash in the pan. He was also able to leave time trial specialist Matthias Brändle (Trek-Segafredo) behind at the Austrian time trial championships in 2018.
Ritter and Kabas grab the championship jersey
The Austrian Cycling Association held the time trial championships this Friday. In Stephanshart, Lower Austria, the juniors, women and men fought for the coveted championship jerseys in red-white-red. The participants in all three categories had to cover the same distance of 28,4 kilometers. The juniors started with an exciting duel. It could Maximilian Kabas prevail with a lead of almost 21 seconds over Maximilian Kirschner. Third place went to Valentin Götzinger, who was already more than a minute behind. The same picture for the women too: Two professionals duel, behind them a distance. In the end cheered Martina Knight (Wiggle High5) in front of Barbara Mayer (RC ARBÖ SK Voest) and Sylvia Gehnböck (FORMAT RC)
Preidler beats Brändle again
After the juniors and women had already ensured an exciting competition, the elite men entered the course. And here, too, the fans and the athletes had to tremble to the end. Matthias Brändle (Trek-Segafredo) is one of the best time trialists in the world. Not so long ago he still held the hour record. Of course, he has also been Austrian time trial champion several times. But this year, like twelve months ago, he finished second. Even faster than Matthias Brändle was again Georg preidler (Groupama-FDJ). Thibaut Pinot's noble helper completed the course in Stephanshart four seconds faster. Bronze goes to Felix Großschartner (Bora-hansgrohe).
