Product news: Product news: Focus Paralane² – The sporty e-racing bike

June 9, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the Focus Paralane², Derby Cycle presents its first e-racing bike. The motor, which is integrated in the down tube inconspicuously, provides up to 400 watts of support and therefore offers a sporty top package with a total weight of less than 13 kilos.

The Focus Paralane² is said to be a groundbreaking e-racing bike that supports you on demand at the right moment with the motor and battery integrated in the down tube. The drive delivers up to 400 watts and 60 Nm with a 250 Wh battery. Ideal for climbing inclines more easily, for facing headwinds more easily or for a lighter step on the way home.Another big advantage is that you can now go on tours with a group that is a bit above your fitness level or you can simply be on the road with a faster partner. Even the way to work is no longer too long or too hilly.

Once the transmission limit has been reached and the e-support switches off, the Focus Paralane² can be ridden like a normal racing bike without any resistance from the e-drive.

By using a FIT carbon construction method, a total weight of less than 13 kilograms including motor and battery could be achieved. A special feature of the Focus Paralane² is that if you decide to ride without assistance, you can easily reduce the weight to less than 10 kilograms by simply removing the motor and battery from the frame. So you can use the racer like a classic racing bike.

The Focus Paralane² uses the revolutionary Road Boost Standard, a new thru-axle dimension developed by Focus in collaboration with DT Swiss, using a 110 and 148 millimeter axle front and rear. The innovative Road Boost system not only optimizes the shifting performance, but is also intended to impress with less wear and tear, as well as ensuring a quieter and longer-lasting drive for the Fazua motor installed in the bike.

Through years of experience in the road bike sector and observing the current trends, it quickly becomes apparent that road cycling is no longer exclusively played out on asphalt roads. For this reason, when developing the Focus Paralane², great importance was attached to the versatility of the bike. With up to 35mm tire clearance and a CIA - Comfort Improving Areas - the Paralane² offers maximum damping properties without loss of efficient power transmission.

The Focus Paralane² is offered in four sizes (SML-XL) and four specification levels. Prices start at €5.199 for the 9.6 version and go up to €10.499 for the top-of-the-line Focus Paralane² 9.9. The first models should arrive at selected dealers from the end of June.

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
