Test: Most people probably know the 100% Speedcraft either because of its extremely concise shape or because of Peter Sagan, who has been using it for years. Does the all-rounder also cut a fine figure off the road? We put the glasses on the MTB test bench.
Originating from the American motocross sport, 100% has stood for uncompromising design and quality since it was founded in the 1980s. Since then, the outfitter's well-known logo has adorned the racing equipment of the largest factory teams in the American motocross scene. For more than 30 years, the drive has been the question "How much effort do you give?", the answer "100%".
The Speedcraft is undoubtedly one of the figureheads of the Americans. Last year we tested the glasses on the road together with several others and the Speedcraft made it to a very good third place in ours Leaderboard performance cycling glasses. So now she had to prove herself on the trail.
The highest demands on design and processing
With the 100% Speedcraft you can choose between two different sizes of glasses, a distinction is made between the classic Speedcraft and a variant with slightly lower glasses, Speedcraft SL, the so-called Short Lens Model. Furthermore, there are a total of 19 different frame-glass combinations across both model variants. All frames are made of flexible and stable plastic and the Megol rubber coating of the nose pads and temples guarantees optimal hold and wearing comfort. The universal fit is suitable for most face shapes and closes cleanly all around. Despite the well windproof design, there is still enough ventilation through small openings on the underside of the glasses to prevent the glasses from fogging up.
The lenses of the 100% Speedcraft come from the high-end Christian Dalloz sunglasses factory in France. For more than 50 years, Dalloz has stood for high-performance glasses with the highest standards of aesthetics and flawless clarity. 100% UV protection (UV400), anti-reflective inside and super light. The 2mm thick lenses meet the highest demands and are also extremely scratch-resistant.
Stable, light and scratch-resistant
The model we tested was Soft Tact Graphite with Purple Multilayer mirrored lens, with the addition of a clear lens for poor visibility. In addition, the high-quality transport box contained another pair of nose pads for smaller noses and a microfiber cleaning bag. Changing the lenses is careful but still easy, and the 100% Speedcraft is quickly adapted to the light conditions. The unused lenses can then be safely stowed in the transport box in the foam.
Let's go, from the first test on the trail. When it rained and the outside temperature was 4 degrees, we opted for the clear glass version. The rain whips quickly against the 100% Speedcraft and rolls off perfectly, visibility in the wet was never restricted. In addition, from the first trail meters in the forest, there was also mud and dirt until finally a piece of fango landed directly in the field of vision. Take a break, wipe off your hardshell jacket, continue. Back in the editorial office, the clear glass unit was examined closely. Despite sand, dirt and improper cleaning with the hard shell jacket, we can't find any scratches on the glass. Point for the glasses. In the subsequent test of the Purple Multilayer glass unit, the Speedcraft scored well with rapid changes from light to dark in the forest and a pleasant view on long and bright passages.
