Cycling: The jury of the Tour de France excluded Gianni Moscon (Sky) from the tour after the 15th stage to Carcassonne. In a statement, the disqualification was justified with a violent attack. As video recordings show, the Sky professional hit an opposing driver in the face.

Gianni Moscon punches Elie Gesbert in the face

For the first time at the Tour de France, the newly installed video evidence grabbed. On the 15st stage from Millau to Carcassonne Gianni moscon - as the TV pictures prove - hit an opposing driver in the face. Right at the start of the race, there were battles for position in the peloton due to the numerous attacks. For reasons that have not yet been clarified Elie Gesbert (Fortuneo-Samsic) got hit by Gianni Moscon. After the section, the jury reviewed the evidence. As a result, the Italian was excluded from the Tour de France.

Sky apologizes

When Gianni Moscon was disqualified, the Tour de France jury referred to the Article in the rule book of the World Cycling Union UCI. It states that a driver may be excluded from the tour due to violent behavior. The TeamSky commented on the case immediately after it was announced and apologized to Elie Gesbert and his Fortuneo-Samsic team.

Sky team manager Dave Brailsford:
“We support and accept the jury's decision to exclude Gianni Moscon from the Tour de France. Gianni is deeply disappointed in his own behavior and knows he has failed himself, his team and the race. We will discuss this incident with him after the tour is over and then decide if further steps need to be taken. I would like to offer both Elie Gesbert and the Fortuneo-Samsic team my sincere apologies for this unacceptable behavior."

Gianni Moscon - Gianni Moscon again

Without a doubt, Gianni Moscon is an excellent driver. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old has not only made a name for himself in cycling in the past because of his sporting skills. Gianni Moscon is not a blank slate when it comes to violence either. In April of last year he is said to have killed the dark-skinned driver Kevin Reza (FDJ) racially insulted have. After Sebastian Reichenbach (FDJ) officially reported that Moscon is said to have pushed the Swiss man off his bike on purpose in the Tre Valli Varesine one-day race. Due to his injuries, Reichenbach then reported Moscon. The UCI has Moscon - for lack of evidence - now acquitted. He also made negative headlines at the World Championships in Bergen. After letting himself be pulled by the team vehicle, he was disqualified. He has apparently learned nothing from all these incidents to this day, although he spoke up in an apologetic video message late on Sunday evening.
