Product news: Eurobike 2018: Bosch e-bike innovations - ABS, Kiox, Fast Charger

July 12, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Eurobike 2018/product news: At the Eurobike, Bosch e-bike presented us with its innovative ABS, the sporty Kiox system and a fast charger for short charging times.

Bosch e-bike ABS

It is hard to imagine cars without the anti-lock braking system, and ABS has now also arrived on bicycles. now also reach the bike. Because from the end of 2018, ABS from Bosch e-bikes for pedelecs will be commercially available on selected models. The system is intended to significantly improve safety, because according to Bosch accident research, almost every fourth pedelec accident could be avoided with the anti-lock braking system and the number of accidents with serious injuries reduced. Incorrect braking behavior often plays a central role in the causes of accidents. When braking, many cyclists neglect the front wheel brake, which achieves a much higher braking effect than the rear wheel brake.
We already had the first practical test of the new Bosch e-bike ABS system.

Bosch e-bike Kiox

With the new Kiox, Bosch offers a compact color display for sporty e-bikers. The small, robust color display can be controlled via a separate control unit on the handlebars and provides the rider with information about speed, their own performance and cadence or the battery charge level. The on-board computer can be connected to an optional heart rate monitor via Bluetooth so that you can train optimally.

Another highlight of the Bosch Kiox is the display lighting. It automatically adapts to the surrounding situation. Even in direct sunlight and in the dark, the 1,9-inch, high-resolution color display is very easy to read. The central positioning on the handlebar stem enables an ideal reading angle. Robust Gorilla Glass protects the display from scratches or other damage. The magnetic holder ensures a firm hold and allows for easy

Bosch E-Bike Fast Charger

For model year 2019, Bosch E-Bike Systems is now introducing the Fast Charger, the fastest charger of all system providers on the market with a charging current of 6A. With the new development, it is possible to fully charge a Bosch PowerPack 500 in three hours.

Fast charging times are of key importance for e-bikers. The Fast Charger needs around 500 hours to half charge a PowerPack 500 or a PowerTube 1,2, and three hours for a full charge. The fast "refueling times" enable e-bikers to enjoy the driving pleasure more intensely - with longer tours and shorter stops. For example, a lunch break of about an hour is enough to recharge the battery to almost 40 percent. Fast loading times are also an essential requirement for a forward-looking infrastructure. The Fast Charger, which is only 20 percent heavier and only slightly larger than the Standard Charger, is compatible with all Bosch product lines.
