Product news: Product news: Simplon Razorblade 29 – Hardtail with 850 gram frame

July 30, 2018 by the editorial office

Simplon Razorblade

Product news: Simplon presents their new race hardtail with 100 mm suspension fork. With minimum weight combined with maximum stiffness, the bike becomes the ideal racer and summit climber. A new cable routing, keyword integration, makes the cockpit even tidier.

After three years, Simplon has taken a look at its classic Razorblade and presented the evolution of its carbon hardtail at the Eurobike Media Days. The frame is, of course, made of carbon. Thanks to an optimized layup of the carbon fibers and no unnecessary frills, the weight has been significantly reduced. The bike has also been given a geometry update: the head angle is slacker and the chainstays are shorter than on its predecessor. The Simplon Razorblade 29 looks much tidier thanks to new cable integration in the cockpit. The Razorblade will be available in five different sizes and three different colors. Thanks to a special top tube in size XS, smaller riders will also get their money's worth in the future. This model is available in two weight and price categories: the standard and the SL (superlight) version. The frame on this model weighs just 850g in size L. The frames of the "normal" Razorblade weigh around 2019 grams for 1000. The complete bike starts at 8,65 kg. Prices for the Razorblade start at 2999,- Euro and the Simplon Razorblade SL with 3899,- Euro.

In all models, the frame is protected by a self-developed steering stop on the underside of the head tube. The inside of the chainstay is also protected by a chainstay protector. The Superlight version comes standard with a super-light Tune thru-axle at the rear.

Simplon

As with Simplon's Pride aero road bike, the gearshift and rear brake cables disappear into the upper headset cup. The cables are completely integrated in the frame up to the exit from the chainstays. For this solution, Simplon has designed a special headset with Acros. By entering via the headset, the Simplon Razorblade saves on the side entrances on the head tube, which again saves a few layers of carbon and thus grams. Another advantage: Nothing rubs when the steering wheel is turned. Also, no opening that is not used has to be closed with ugly plugs. Very clean.

A chain guide for the 1x chain ring can easily be mounted on the frame, of course a front derailleur can also be mounted. Despite the thoroughbred racing character, the Razorblade offers maximum seating comfort. Simplon uses an in-house carbon seat post with a diameter of 27,2 mm and the flex of the filigree seat stays, saving important "grains" for the last few meters over the finish line. A telescopic support can also find its way into the bike via the configurator.
