cycling: André Greipel will drive for the Fortuneo-Samsic team from 2019

August 1, 2018 by Michael Behringer

André Greipel

Cycling: As reported by l'Equipe, André Greipel has decided to switch to the French team Fortuneo-Samsic. The German sprinter had to look for a new team from 2019 because his contract with Lotto Soudal will not be extended.

André Greipel changes from Lotto Soudal to Fortuneo-Samsic

It had been known for several days that André Greipel had to find a new team for the coming season. Lotto Soudal has not renewed his contract. Which team he will choose, but not. Yesterday, Tuesday, l'Equipe reported that he probably chose the French ProContinental team Fortuneo-Samsic. This change would definitely make sense for both parties, since Fortuneo-Samsic does not yet have a good sprinter and André Greipel is known as such. Furthermore, the German can hope to receive an invitation to the Tour de France and thus take part in the most important cycling race of the year in 2019. André Greipel has clinched 92 of his 153 victories over the past eight years in a Lotto Soudal jersey.

Victory in Hanover & European Cycling Championships cancelled

In addition to signing the contract and leaving the Tour de France, André Greipel has made headlines in recent days. That's how he won the night of Hanover on Monday. At the post-tour criterion, the 36-year-old left Maximilian Walscheid (Sunweb) and Rick Zabel (Katusha-Alpecin) behind. The cyclist, who was born in Rostock, also announced that he will not be taking part in the European Championships in Glasgow. John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) leads the squad alone as captain.
