cycling: Cycling European Championship: Bronze for Maximilian Schachmann & Trixi Worrack

August 8, 2018 by Michael Behringer

Cycling European Championship Worrack Schachmann

Cycling European Championship: Europe's time trial champions from the previous year are allowed to keep their special jerseys for another year. In the rain in Glasgow, Belgium's Victor Campenaerts and Dutch Ellen Van Dijk defended their titles - albeit very narrowly. But the German participants were also allowed to celebrate. Maximilian Schachmann and Trixi Worrack finished third. The cycling EM continues to run as desired for the BDR.

Campenaerts leaves Castroviejo just behind

The time trial of the European Cycling Championships fell through in the truest sense of the word. Despite the heavy rain at times, the race took place. In the fight against the clock, the spectators on the side of the road got to see an exciting duel for victory. Last year's winner Victor Campenaerts reserved Jonathan Castroviejo the upper hand. The Belgian was a full 0,63 seconds faster on the 45,0 kilometer time trial course. The German was just over 27 seconds behind Maximilian schachmann to the bronze rank. Stefan Kung from Switzerland finished seventh. The road race will be held on Sunday on a circuit covering a total of 230,4 kilometers. At the BDR, hopes rest on John Degenkolb.

Trixi Worrack takes bronze in the time trial, Lisa Brennauer in the road race

Before the men rolled onto the street today, the women had already measured themselves. As expected, there was an exciting duel between the two Dutch women Ellen Van Dijk and Anna Van der Breggen. Van Dijk completed the 32,0 kilometers in Glasgow in 41:39 minutes, leaving her opponent Van der Breggen two seconds behind. The 31-year-old can thus celebrate her third European championship title in a row. The recovered woman was happy about bronze Trixie Worrack. So today, like last Sunday, the BDR got the bronze medal in the road race. There had to Lisa Brennauer only Martha Bastianelli and Marianne Vos give up.

Trixi Worrack won the bronze medal 🥉 in the time trial of the European Championships in Glasgow.
