Cycling transfers: Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) and Marcel Sieberg (Lotto Soudal) have decided. The two Germans will leave their current teams and drive for Bahrain Merida for the next two years. There they could team up directly and become a successful sprinter duo.
Will Bauhaus take the next step with Anfahrer Sieberg?
It has been hinted at for a long time and is now a certainty. Phil Bauhaus will leave the German team Sunweb and join Bahrain Merida. The same goal controls Marcel Sieberg who, like André Greipel from Lotto Soudal, has not received a new contract. For both players, this change could make sense. Phil Bauhaus has developed further in the current season. The strong sprinter drew attention to himself in a few races. But he was only allowed to celebrate one victory on the Abu Dhabi Tour. This is not least due to the fact that he does not enjoy the undisputed role of captain in the German team Sunweb. Especially in major national tours, everyone has to submit to Tom Dumoulin's classification ambitions. The move to Bahrain Merida will not only pay off financially for Marcel Sieberg either. He may be allowed to act as the new sprint starter for Phil Bauhaus - and drive against André Greipel in the future.
Marcel Sieberg:
“A special thanks goes to André Greipel for eleven great years. You are the best. I will never forget the time with you."
Bahrain Merida has big plans
In addition to Phil Bauhaus and Marcel Sieberg, Team Bahrain Merida has also announced the signing of Dylan Teuns (BMC). The team of team boss Brent Copeland seems to be in a very strong position for the coming years and want to take the next step. In any case, he expects a lot from the two Germans.
Brent Copeland:
“Phil is one of the most promising sprinters in the peloton. We've been watching him closely and we think he can still surprise us in the sprint in the future. And Marcel brings us an incredible amount of experience on and off the race track. We count on his presence a lot, especially in Phil's sprint train. Marcel has worked with the best drivers in the world and we think he's one of the best, if not the best, starters around."
Marcel Sieberg:
"It's like a fresh start for me. The team has great potential and I hope that I can contribute to their success with my skills.”
Phil Bauhaus:
“I already feel that the team believes in me. I think we can have successful years together.”
