Cycling: Two professionals in particular can be happy today after the fifth stage of the Vuelta a Espana. While Simon Clarke (EF Education) won the stage, Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) secured the red jersey. Both were part of the leading group, which finished well ahead of the peloton.
Again, the outliers prevail
After yesterday's breakaways were already successful, today on the fifth stage of the Vuelta a Espana another driver from the leading group was able to celebrate the day's victory. After around 60 kilometers, no fewer than 25 men broke away from the start in Granada. Shortly before the final climb, a trio broke away from the breakaway group Build Mollema (Trek Segafredo), Alessandro De Marchi (BMC) and simon clarke (EF Education). Since the three leaders - at least until shortly before the end - harmonized well, they could no longer be caught by the competition. After 188 kilometers, Simon Clarke was the first to cross the finish line in Roquetas de Mar. Also had reason to be happy rudy molard (Groupama-FDJ). The Frenchman finished sixth and took over the red jersey Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky). In the overall classification there were no gaps among the top favourites.
