Test: The Oakley Flight Jacket sets new standards in performance eyewear, both in terms of its aesthetics and its technical properties. Due to the half frame that is open at the top, it has an absolutely unique design and maximizes the field of vision upwards. Added to this is the innovative Advancer ventilation system.
The biggest feature of the Oakley Flight Jacket is the so-called Oakley Advancer, the world's first innovation in the field of ventilation, with which fogging and heat build-up behind the glasses can be actively counteracted. Advancer technology gives athletes the ability to let cool air flow in when needed with a simple flick of the wrist. All you have to do is fold down a small lever on the bridge of the nose, which moves the nose pads further away from the lens and creates a larger space between the face and the lens. This allows athletes to fully concentrate on their ride and not be distracted by the surrounding conditions.
The frame plays an important role in the fit. Due to the relatively large nose pad, the Flight Jacket has a great grip and hardly slips even in the bumpiest of conditions. The entire frame is also built quite stable and ensures a comfortable fit, because there are no pressure points. Despite the stable design, the Oakley Flight Jacket is super light. Materials combine durability and comfort with impact cushioning designed for sport.
Oakley Flight Jacket - Prizm Road Glass
In the meantime, when it comes to cycling glasses, there isn't anything that doesn't exist yet: mirrored, polarized, self-tinting. However, Oakley takes everything to a new level and offers a sport-specific lens with the Prizm-Road. During the first test drive, or rather the first time we put it on, we were completely blown away. Because if you look through the Prizm glass for the first time, the difference between the "real environment" and the view from the glasses is like between HD+ and pixelated black and white television - to put it exaggeratedly.
The specially developed tint intensifies certain colors, creating a very high-contrast image and making it easier to perceive details. Potholes or bumps in particular can be recognized very well. Even with light and shadow changes, the glass is absolutely convincing and ensures less stress in the eyes. The glass has an extra coating, which is why water and dirt simply roll off.
