Cycling News: Urs Huber from Team Bulls wins his fifth Crocodile Trophy Champion title in Port Douglas after 8 stages with a time of 27:38:30,7 and even set a new record in the 24-year history of the event. Sarah White won her second Crocodile Trophy in the women's classification with 36:10:25,6 ahead of Lucy Coldwell (AUS) and Sjoukje Dufoer (BEL).
"I'm very happy about this victory and that I achieved what I set out to do at the start of this race," said Urs Huber about his record-breaking fifth victory.
Coming to his sixth appearance in 10 years, a lot has changed for the Team Bulls athlete at the Crocodile Trophy.#
“It used to be a street racer competition with long outback highways and now it's an event where you have to be an all-rounder, but what's still the same is the tough competition at the front. You have to be a good technical driver but also tactical racing. I went into the race fully concentrated, all that counts is the overall win.”
Veteran ultra-endurance racer Sarah White is the winner in the Elite Women category, followed by Lucy Coldwell.
The Crocodile Trophy brought participants from 16 different nationalities, including 18 Australians, on a spectacular eight-day route through tropical North Queensland covering almost 700 km and more than 15.000 meters in altitude. They started last Saturday with a marathon from Cairns to Lake Tinaroo and spent the second and third days in Herberton and the surrounding Herberton Range National Parks. For the 16th time, the Crocodile Trophy made a stopover at Irvinebank before heading north to Skybury Coffee for two nights. Wetherby Station also hosted the event, as did Port Douglas on the final day, where the 50km leg ended with a racy descent down the infamous Bump Track along the coast.
