Test: Who doesn't know it by now? You want to mount your tubeless tires on the wheels, but don't have a compressed air compressor at hand - with the Lezyne Digital Pressure Over Drive floor pump, the pressure tank can be pumped up to 15 bar. The amount should be enough to fill a tire in seconds. Velomotion tested the Lezyne floor pump.
Just a few years ago, you belonged to the small minority that used tubeless systems. That has changed in the meantime, but from time to time one is still faced with seemingly unsolvable tasks. One of them is putting on a tire. A lot actually helps a lot here and you need a good amount of air and that as quickly as possible to balance the tire on the rim. Normal floor pumps are rarely successful. A compressor is not always at hand and CO2 cartridges are more practical for emergencies.
Lezyne Digital Pressure Over Drive floor pump in detail:
With the Digital Pressure Over Drive floor pump, Lezyne was one of the first on the market to have the right solution for this problem. This pump uses a pressure tank that can be pumped up to 15 bar. A pressure relief valve prevents excessive pressure in the system. Once you have reached the desired pressure in the tank, depending on the tire, significantly less than the maximum pressure is sufficient, the air is released via a nylon-reinforced hose with a stainless steel foot lever and shoots into the tire via the ABS-1 PRO Chuck pump head. This attachment for Presta - Schrader - Dunlop valves was specially developed for the high-pressure area. The pump head is also equipped with a drain valve and a valve wrench to unscrew or tighten the Presta valve insert. The drain valve is very inconspicuous and can easily be overlooked. The placement in the pressure display area would have been a lot more comfortable.
The pump is available both in a digital version as we use it and with an analogue display. The workmanship is perfect and noble all around. The wooden handle is almost flattering in the hand and the black aluminum pump is a visual treat. The 1,2m hose makes it easy to use. The pump still has a few small weaknesses. The ABS-1 Pro Chuck pump head can only be attached to Presta valves if the screwed-in valve core is present. However, this valve insert leads to a significantly reduced air passage, which in some tire / rim combinations leads to insufficient air entering the system to mount the tire. It usually helps to unscrew the valve insert. In this case, however, the pump head can only be attached with difficulty and must be held in place by hand.
The Pressure Over Drive is also not suitable for a short tire pressure check. If the pump is connected to an already inflated tire, the pressure chamber must first be inflated to the pressure that also exists in the tire. Only then can the pressure in the tire be increased or decreased by the pump. All in all, too cumbersome if you only want to check the tire pressure for a short time.
