February 3, 2019 by Michael Behringer

World Cycle Cross Championships Bogense Van der Poel

Cycle cross: As expected, Mathieu van der Poel was crowned world champion in cyclo cross. The Dutchman triumphed in front of four Belgians in the Danish coastal town of Bogense. Yesterday, the Belgian Sanne Cant defended her title in the women's section on the wind-prone course – in front of four Dutch women.

Men's cyclocross world championship: Mathieu Van der Poel is unbeatable

It has become apparent in the past few months: The world's best crosser on a bike is Mathieu van der Poel. The Dutchman hardly seems to be beatable at any track when he starts in top form. And he definitely wasn't in bad shape this Sunday in the Danish coastal town of Bogense. He confidently took command very early on. It almost seemed like he wasn't exhausting himself completely. A duel for silver broke out behind them wout van aert and Toon Aerts. Although the latter made the better impression, in the end he could only take the bronze medal due to a fall. The German also delivered a terrific performance Marcel Meisen away. He finished eighth with a deficit of around one and a half minutes.

1. Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands)
2. Wout van Aert (Belgium) + 0:16
3. Toon Aerts (Belgium) +0:25
4. Michael Vanthourenhout (Belgium) + 0:50
5. Laurens Sweeck (Belgium) +1:01

Vince is the forte: Mathieu van der Poel is the champion of the world of cyclocross for the second voltage in carriera 🌈👏🇳🇱

Women's cyclocross world championship: Sanne Cant in front of four Dutch women

For the third time in a row Sanne Cant named world champion in cyclocross. The Belgian had to fight alone against four Dutch women for the entire race – and won. As a tragic heroine broke Lucinda Brand in tears on the podium. The Dutchwoman fell three times and had to fight back again and again. In the end she prevailed against her own competitors, but Sanne Cant was nine seconds behind. Jolanda Neff from Switzerland was sixth. The German Elisabeth Brandau was 18. The Austrian Nadja Heigl 24.

Sanne Cant:
“My first title back then was unexpected. But this one is really amazing.”

Lucinda Brand:
“It was a tough race mentally. I felt stronger than the rest and I'm very disappointed."

1. Sanne Cant (Belgium)
2. Lucinda Brand (Netherlands) + 0:09
3. Marianne Vos (Netherlands) + 0:15
4. Denise Betsema (Netherlands) + 0:25
5. Annemarie Worst (Netherlands) +0:34

Junior cyclocross world championships: Van der Heijden, Pidcock & Tulett

The juniors opened the cyclocross world championships in Bogense on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Briton Ben Tulett was able to beat Belgium's Witse Meeussen and Ryan Cortjens by 20 and 27 seconds respectively. The German Tom Lindner drew attention to himself with a strong sixth place. Immediately afterwards, the British were allowed to celebrate again. Because in the U23 class it worked thomas pidcock to leave last year's Belgian winner Eli Iserbyt and Frenchman Antoine Benoist behind by 15 seconds. The Swiss Loris Rouiller finished in a respectable eighth place. On Sunday the U23 women were asked to dance in the mud. In the end, three Dutch women narrowly prevailed against their competitors. Inge Van der Heijden won by three seconds ahead of Fleur Nagengast and eight seconds ahead of Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado. Switzerland's Nicole Koller finished eighth, just 17 seconds back.
