Product news: Geero E-Bikes 2019: Puristic, affordable, light-footed

March 8, 2019 by Michael Faiß

Product news: The Austrian e-bike manufacturer Geero from Styria, now firmly established on the market, is continuing on its chosen path in 2019: Stylish e-bikes for city and touring cyclists who neither invest a fortune in their two-wheeler nor lead heavy 25kg+ bombers want to maneuver the hectic everyday life. There are three basic models of Geero e-bikes 2019 available this season.

All this is made possible by the self-developed drive: The motor is in the compact rear wheel hub, the control and charging electronics are in the frame itself, as is the battery. This sets you apart from many other, classic hub motors, where all the electronics are often in the hub housing . Due to the distribution, Geero can keep the drive extremely compact, and you also prevent any heat problems.

With 40Nm, the compact motor delivers a remarkable performance, which cannot keep up with the unbridled power of modern mid-mounted motors, but is more than sufficient for the targeted area of application. A positive side effect is the considerable range that the drive achieves in combination with the 420Wh battery: Geero states an average of 85km, with a particularly economical driving style it can also be well over 100km. In addition to the three support levels that can be selected on the handlebar remote control, the drive can also be completely deactivated. In view of the low weight (15,7 kg for the standard version) and the lack of resistance of the motor, this is a very good way to save battery charge on the flat. The battery, which unfortunately can only be charged in the frame, is charged from 0 to 100% within three hours thanks to the quick charger supplied.

All Geero bikes are priced under €3.000, with the entry-level model being a real bargain at under €2.400. This is made possible, among other things, by the distribution structure: Geero bikes are exclusively available for purchase on the official website ; those who would like to try out a bike before buying can do so at some test events and trade fairs where Geero will be present in 2019.

For 2019, Geero is offering its e-bike in three different trim levels: Standard, City and Touring. They all have in common the drive including the 420Wh battery, the two colors Creme Soda Beige and Vintage Vinyl Black, the two frame shapes and their retro look.

Geero standard electric bike 2019

The evergreen in the Austrian range goes by the name "Standard" and on the one hand has been reduced to the essentials, but on the other hand it also comes with a drive, battery and the retro look of the high-quality models. At first glance, the electric speedster looks like a stylish urban bike; The omission of all attachments that are not absolutely necessary, such as luggage racks or mudguards, not only benefits the puristic look, but also reduces the weight properly: Geero specifies a weight of 15,9 kg for its entry-level model - a very good one for an e-bike , in view of the price range of well under 3.000 euros almost sensational value.

You have to do without noble add-on parts and components on the Geero Standard, but the 9-speed Sora gearshift from Shimano is always sufficient for use in the city and also has the advantage of being able to replace wearing parts cheaply. The entry-level Geero is braked with rim brakes – a rarity on modern e-bikes, but usually perfectly adequate in dry weather. If it gets wet, you may need a little more manual force during the braking process. Last but not least, the "heart": The bike shares the motor with all Geeros, which means: 40Nm of torque, 250 watts of power and an average range of 85km from the 420Wh battery. The bike is available with both a classic diamond and a comfortable trapeze frame. In terms of price, the basic model starts at an affordable EUR 2.398,99.

Geero City Electric Bike 2019

If you value 100% suitability for everyday use and a little more comfort, you should take a look at the city version of the Geero e-bike: Mudguards that are pulled far downwards reliably protect against unpleasant wetness from below even in deep puddles and can be attached to the stylish luggage rack conveniently attach panniers - perfect for commuters. The components remain the same as the well-known Sora gears, but this is combined with hydraulic disc brakes, which further underline the bike's suitability for all weather conditions. The handlebars with more backsweep and the slightly wider tires from Hutchinson, which offer noticeably more damping on bad bike paths, also ensure a slightly more comfortable seating position.

Of course, the additional attachments and the hydraulic stoppers are reflected in the weight: at 18,7 kg, the bike is significantly heavier than the puristic standard version, but still very light for an e-bike. The same applies to the price: At 2.798,99 euros, this is still within an affordable price range - especially since the 40Nm drive is also included in the frame.

Geero touring electric bike 2019

If you want to take your e-bike with you not only within the city limits, but also on an extended weekend tour, you should find a suitable companion in the touring version of Geero: Basically, the equipment of the city version corresponds to hydraulic disc brakes, mudguards and porter. For greater variability on different terrains, however, the touring variant has a Sram NX gear system with 11 gears and a significantly larger range; This means that longer climbs can also be comfortably climbed. The ergonomics are also adapted to the area of use in detail: The adjustable stem meets different requirements, especially since the straight touring handlebars also enable sportier seating positions.

At €2998,99, even the top-of-the-line Geero model remains below the magic €3.000 mark and, despite being fully equipped, weighs in at just 19,3 kg. Like all Geero bikes, it is available exclusively through the official website.
