Longer, flatter, more potent: The new Wild Edge 2020
The new Bulls Wild Edge 2020 follows a similar path as the recently presented new Black Adder Team Hardtail for 2019. In view of the increasing XC orientation in the World Cup and also in stage races such as the Cape Epic, the conception and development are concentrated more on smooth running, on a powerful chassis and a safe driving experience in difficult terrain - without neglecting the propulsion on the other hand. A difficult balancing act, which seems to have been successful with the new Bulls XC Race Fully if you want to believe the veteran Karl Platt: "Brutal that thing! Better than I would have imagined. The bike suits my riding style perfectly. We have taken the experience from the development of the new Black Adder frame and adapted it to the fully. With the short chainstays I have more feeling for the rear wheel and thanks to the longer reach I can use a shorter stem and therefore have a more direct steering response.”
First ride report on the new Bulls Black Adder team
Product news: First Ride: Bulls Black Adder Team 2019 in a short test
First Ride: The Bulls Black Adder has been the undisputed top hardtail in the ZEG brand's portfolio since it was launched a few years ago. Big names like Karl Platt, Tim Böhme and Stefan Sahm from Team BULLS have been able to win countless victories on the carbon racing file in the past. But as a wise man once said: standing still means […]
But what has actually happened? Above all, the geometry has changed significantly compared to the predecessor: while the chain stays have become 10mm shorter, the main frame has grown significantly in length and the steering angle is also noticeably flatter at 68°. This keeps the front calm even on steep descents and allows the use of shorter stems, which further improve control. However, thanks to the new short struts, the bike does not lose any of its agility and remains easy to control, for example, in hairpin bends. High anti-squat values guarantee a lot of propulsion, even with an open damper.
The Bulls Wild Edge Team 2020 race bike
The race bike, which has to endure the hardships of the Cape Epic, is of course equipped with the best that the market has to offer: from the Fox Factory chassis to the new Shimano XTR 12-speed group, things are big and not messy. By the way: Karl Platt starts in South Africa with a 36 tooth blade, Simon Stiebjahn even with 38 teeth! By the way: A retractable seat post can also be installed in the new Bulls Wild Edge 2020, appropriate to the difficult conditions of modern XC and marathon routes.
