Cycling: Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon – Circus) won the Dwars door Vlaanderen one-day race. This is the first time the Dutchman – actually known primarily as a crosser – can look forward to success in the WorldTour.

Lukas Pöstlberger strongest outlier
In Roeselare, the male cycling pros set off today over 182,8 kilometers to Waregem. Since the pace of the race was extremely fast at the beginning, the peloton threatened to collide with the women's field, which is why the men's race had to be stopped without further ado. The eight leaders – including the Austrian Lukas Postlberger (Bora – hansgrohe) were then of course allowed to claim their original lead again. Overall, however, it was of no use to the group, because apart from the Austrian champion, all breakaways were caught again.
Group of five leaves peloton behind
Lukas Postlberger was able to stay in front and later got around the strong chasing group Mathieu van der Poel (Corendeon – Circus), Anthony Turgis (direct energy), Bob jungels (Deceuninck – Quick Step) and Tiesj Benoot (Lotto – Soudal) connect. The peloton couldn't compete against this group of five. In the sprint, Anthony Turgis almost managed a surprise attack when he opened up a sprinter hole and then attacked with momentum. But just at that moment Mathieu van der Poel looked around - and drove out of the slipstream to his first success in the WorldTour.

Ladies: Ellen van Dijk repeats last year's victory
The ladies started their one-day race Dwars door Vlaanderen in Tielt. They had to master 108,3 demanding kilometers to reach their destination in Waregem. As in the previous year, the Dutchwoman proved herself Ellen Van Dijk (Trek – Segafredo) as a real tip. She won again as a soloist. came second Martha Bastianelli (Virtu Cycling) before Lucinda Brand (Sunweb). The German Liana Lippert (Sunweb) had an excellent result in ninth.
