Cycling: Rick Zabel (Katusha – Alpecin) has won a race again after almost four years. The German left well-known professionals far behind in the mass sprint on the second stage of the Tour de Yorkshire.
Rick Zabel can win - and wins
Actually would have Marcel Kittel (Katusha – Alpecin) to sprint for stage wins at the Tour de Yorkshire. But the 30-year-old had to cancel his participation shortly before the start due to illness. Anfahrer now jumped for him Rick Zabel (Katusha – Alpecin) into the breach. The son of Eric Zabel gave the competition no chance on the 132,0 kilometer stage from Barnsley to Bedale. The now 25-year-old sprinted up from far behind – and won by several bike lengths. Behind them placed themselves Boy van Poppel (Roompot—Charles) and Chris Lawless (Ineo). Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) again had no chance and did not finish in the top ten. For Rick Zabel, the day's win was his first success in almost four years. He is now just one second behind in the overall standings Jesper Asselman (Roompot – Charles) in second place.
