General: Propain Ekano: New e-enduro with a clear design language and integrated battery

3 May 2019 by Andrew Waldera

Product news: Propain presents a brand new e-enduro that is said to be characterized by extreme versatility. According to the manufacturer, the Propain Ekano covers all areas of use from all-mountain tours to e-enduro racing. The promising E-MTB is offered as a short travel and long travel version. The drive unit comes 100% from Shimano.

According to Propain, the greatest strength of the new Ekano e-enduro is its versatility, which should allow the rider both relaxed all-mountain tours and tough competitions. Depending on individual preferences, the E-Enduro is offered with a variety of customization options. From the suspension to wheel sizes to the freely configurable equipment, all requirements should be met. Depending on the configuration, the Propain Ekano is available as a short travel version with 150 mm of travel at the front and rear and as a long travel version with a travel of 170 mm at the front and 165 mm at the rear.

The heart of the e-enduro is the multiple butted aluminum frame. To achieve the ideal balance of stiffness and flex, engineers made multiple adjustments to the frame's lateral stiffness during development. The result is a frame with a clear design language, which is underlined by the integrated battery. The developers also dug deep into their bag of tricks for the suspension system. Propain deliberately went new ways with the anti-squat and keeps it relatively high at 130% to counteract the spring travel compression on steep climbs. This should prevent the front wheel from rearing up even on the steepest climbs.

State-of-the-art technology is also used in the drive system. Propain is the first manufacturer to install the new, lighter 8035 battery from Shimano in combination with the Shimano Steps E8000 motor on the Ekano. The drive unit comes 100% completely from Shimano. As with all current models, Propain no longer offers any fixed equipment for the new E-Enduro. The manufacturer only gives recommendations from start to performance to high-end, where the customer can still adapt all parts according to his own wishes. The customer decides what the bike looks like in the end. In terms of price, those interested in buying have to be prepared for an amount of 4100 to 6300 euros.
