Children's bike test: The Frogbike 55 convinces with its low weight and good equipment at a reasonable price. The frame geometry is a bit different than the competition - but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
The Frogbike in the "Union Jack" design appeals to many adults straight away; the optics did not appeal to our test children. The highlight is of course the low weight: The bike weighs less than eight and a half kilos, which is a small sensation, especially given the low price. You don't have to do without it: Apart from the fact that there is no side stand, the bike is solid and well made and equipped with decent components.
With 12-32 teeth and a 32 chain ring, the eight-speed gear system offers a good range of gear ratios; however, the two-button trigger lever takes some getting used to. The V-brakes work strong enough and are easy to use with child-friendly handles. The tires are quite narrow at 1,75 inches and are ideal for the road with their fine profile; on loose ground they offer enough traction and grip. There is hardly any room for wider tires; on the other hand, experience shows that such tires are easily sufficient off-road. Thanks to threaded eyelets, mudguards and a carrier can be attached.

In terms of seat geometry, the Frogbike shows some differences to other models: the bottom bracket has a little more distance to the ground, the top tube is a bit longer. This makes the wheel appear larger and more stretched than it actually is; What really stands out, however, is the narrow handlebar – it is 8 to 10 cm wider in similar models in the test, which is noticeable through more safe handling. This is the only detail that stands out negatively - if the size is right, everything else speaks for the light children's MTB. Children should be at least 55 cm tall for the Frog 120 model. For smaller kids, the Frog 52 is available in a smaller frame size with a 3 cm shorter seat tube.
