Cycling: Dylan Teuns (Bahrain – Merida) won the second stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The Belgian won the mountainous section in a two-man sprint just ahead of Frenchman Guillaume Martin (Wanty – Groupe Gobert). The two now also occupy the first two places in the overall standings. The group of favorites around Chris Froome (Ineos) lost 13 seconds.

Ineos brings back the strong breakaway group
The second day of the Critérium du Dauphiné proved even more challenging than the first. The 180-kilometer course from Mauriac to Craponne-sur-Arzon featured no fewer than eight categorized climbs. Fourteen riders managed to break away from the peloton on the very first ascent, including several top contenders for the overall classification. Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb), Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step), Gorka Izagirre (Astana), and David Gaudu (Groupama – FDJ) were all present at the front, as were Germany's Emanuel Buchmann and Austria's Gregor Mühlberger of Bora – hansgrohe. Michal Kwiatkowski (Ineos) had also initially joined the breakaway, but due to team orders, he was forced to drop back and support his Ineos team in the chase. After a lengthy battle, the group was finally caught 35 kilometers from the finish. However, the pace did not slow down even after that, so the group of favorites became smaller and smaller.
Teuns keeps Martin in check
Leader Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) couldn't keep up the pace. Numerous attacks within the last 35 kilometers completely shattered the peloton. Dylan Teuns (Bahrain – Merida) and Guillaume Martin (Wanty – Groupe Gobert) seized the perfect moment to break away. Together, they managed to keep the favorites at bay. In the two-man sprint, puncher Dylan Teuns proved – as expected – to be the stronger rider. The Belgian thus also takes over the yellow jersey. The chasing group, including Jakob Fuglsang (Astana), Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ), Nairo Quintana (Movistar), Adam Yates (Mitchelton – Scott), Chris Froome (Ineos), and other top riders, finished 13 seconds behind. The battle for the overall victory remains exciting. Incidentally, Emanuel Buchmann lost 44 seconds at the end of the day, while Tom Dumoulin lost a whopping 8 minutes and 50 seconds.
