cycling: All clear at Ineos: Geraint Thomas is probably not seriously injured

June 18, 2019 by Michael Behringer

Geraint Thomas Tour de France Out

Cycling: Geraint Thomas (Ineos) will probably not miss the 2019 Tour de France. The defending champion of the Tour of France fell on the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse and was slightly injured. Initial investigations did not reveal any serious injuries.

Geraint Thomas didn't break anything

The fans of the Ineos team can breathe a sigh of relief: Geraint Thomas did not suffer any fractures when he fell at the Tour de Suisse. The Tour de Suisse doctor has one for the 33-year-old Laceration on the head and abrasions and bruises on the shoulder established. Further examinations are being carried out at the Baselland Cantonal Hospital at the Bruderholz site in Basel. However, a tour-off is not up for debate. Last year's winner of the Tour de France would have been the second captain of his team Ineos after Chris Froome, who missed the highlight of the season due to an accident a few weeks before the start of the Tour of France. However, initial fears do not seem to be confirmed. Ineos sports director Gabriel Rasch also made a positive statement in an interview immediately after the race: "He looked OK."

Crash at the Tour de Suisse

Geraint Thomas was on the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse fell together with Andrey Zeits (Astana). The Kazakh also had to retire from the race. According to his gestures, a curb seemed to have been the cause of the accident. Geraint Thomas made no move at all to get back on his bike. Instead, he sat resignedly on the floor and grabbed her right shoulder. Doctors and team members later came and examined the Welshman on the spot. After he took off his jersey, the spectators could too painful abrasions recognize. Geraint Thomas was then taken to the Bruderholzspital in Basel for further examinations.

Ineos was unlucky in 2019

After with Chris Froome the captain had to pass injured for the Tour de France, the Ineos fans now feared the same thing Geraint Thomas. If the Welshman were to fail as well, he would Egan Bernal become the new leader in the Ineos team. The 22-year-old Colombian has only contested one Grand Tour in his young career. Last year he was 15th in the Tour de France - and that as a helper to Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas. Experts already see him as the upcoming star in the cycling sky. The star could possibly rise even earlier than expected. Egan Bernal himself was in the role of the unlucky one this year. Actually, he should have been captain of the Giro d'Italia, but shortly before that he broke his collarbone.

Y se cayó Geraint Thomas bien fuerte en el Tour de Suiza… ¿Será que si llega bien a @LeTour ?

The papel de Egan Bernal pinta is gigante this year in France.
