Cycling: The new German cycling champions on the road are called Lisa Brennauer and Maximilian Schachmann. From now on, both will be seen in the championship jersey at all races.
German men's championship: Bora – hansgrohe dominates
Once again Bora - hansgrohe has secured the German championship title for men. After Pascal Ackermann and Marcus Burghardt in the two previous years, the hat trick was even achieved in 2019. The racing team from Raubling controlled the event from the start. After numerous disqualifications - more on that in the paragraph below - there were hardly any drivers left in the race. So three pros from Bora – hansgrohe were able to break away together. Marcus Burghardt, Maximilian Schachmann and Andreas Schillinger managed to keep the competition at a distance in a three-man time trial over the remaining 40 kilometers. Also Nils Politt (Katusha – Alpecin) didn't manage to jump back up. The trio in black and green was able to decide the German championship title among themselves completely unchallenged and hand it over to Maximilian Schachmann. After all: It certainly didn't hit the wrong professional. Schachmann is extremely strong in 2019.

Dear BDR, that was not an advertisement for cycling
As was expected in advance, the German Championships this Sunday did not succeed in putting cycling in a positive light. After months of no one willing to host the road race, the Sachsenring was ultimately the only option. A special rule had to be introduced due to a poorly thought-out route. Riders more than two minutes behind the leaders were disqualified and immediately removed from the race. With such a constellation, there was a risk that the pros would meet at a certain section of the route. In order to avoid the risk of accidents, this rule had to be introduced out of necessity. However, as expected, this did not make for a particularly exciting and interesting race. If cycling in Germany wants to return even close to its old strength in the future, such problems are simply unacceptable. At least there is one piece of positive news: It is already certain that the German Road Championships 2020 will take place in Stuttgart.
German championship of women: Lisa Brennauer overjoyed
Down "normal" was the German championship for women. After 103 kilometers triumphed Lisa Brennauer (WNT – Rotor) in the sprint in front of a seven-person leading group Lisa Klein (Canyon – SRAM) and last year's winner Liana Lippert (Sunweb). Of the 74 participants who started, very quickly only a few of the women were still in the race due to the two-minute rule. In the end, 23 women finished. Liane Lippert was particularly active on hilly terrain and ensured a timely selection. She was finally satisfied with third place behind the two top sprinters.
Lisa Brennauer:
"I'm just speechless. The finale was tailor-made for me. The course was demanding, I especially liked the last climb before the finish and also the constant increase in speed. Thanks to my team, who worked so perfectly for me today, thanks to Kathrin Hammes, who was so strong in the final. I was hoping for more than third place in the time trial on Friday, but today is the crowning glory. Since 2014, I've actually almost always made it onto the podium. Nevertheless, it is only my second championship title on the road. And I'm really proud."
