Product news: Product News: The new Scott Addict RC

June 25, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the completely revised Scott Addict RC, Scott presents its latest achievement in the racing bike sector. With the best carbon structure to date, they want to combine low weight and aerodynamics.

The new Scott Addict RC is set to be the latest competitive weapon for Team Michelton Scott. The Addict RC was first launched in 2008 and has been continuously improved ever since. With a new carbon structure and improved integration, the drivers should now get even better aerodynamics and rigidity with less weight.

Scott Addict RC - Integration

The all-new Addict RC features fully integrated cable routing for both mechanical and electronic shifting. They wanted to achieve everything without making compromises in terms of shifting, braking quality or the rigidity of the head tube. In addition, the new internal design makes it easier for mechanics to change cables and service the bike. The heart of the integration is the self-developed and patented "Eccentric Bicycle Fork Shaft". The core of this innovation is that the steering axis on the upper headset has an offset of 3 mm to the axis on the lower headset. This combination of a 3mm offset 1⅟₄" steerer tube in a 1,5″ top bracket provides enough space in front of the steerer tube to route both mechanical and electronic shifter wires as well as both hydraulic hoses completely internally, without compromising steering.

“Ever since I turned pro, the Addict RC has been my trusty steed. I felt very comfortable on the bike in the mountains, especially because it's so light. Now the new version not only stays light, it's also stiffer, fully integrated, more aerodynamic and features disc brakes for faster braking, especially in the rain, making it the ultimate climbing bike.” – Simon Yates

Scott Addict RC - Weight and stiffness

Thanks to a combination of structural optimization and a sophisticated layering of the bike's ultra-high modulus carbon fibers, the stiffness in the bottom bracket has been significantly improved. In addition, the number of glued joints has been reduced to a minimum, while clean and smooth lines inside the frame create a particularly lightweight frameset. Hollow body design and structure and a new ultra-light seat clamp combined with a sophisticated layer of different carbon fibers allow for a significant weight reduction while increasing stiffness in critical areas.

Scott Addict RC - Aerodynamics

To make the Addict RC even faster, Scott's patented profile design was applied and used on all main tubes with the aim of optimizing airflow and reducing overall drag. The lowered seatstays reduce the gap behind the seat tube and the seatstays eliminate air stagnation and therefore drag. The integrated cable routing not only ensures a clean and high-quality look, but also improves the airflow in the front.

Scott Addict RC Geometry

The new Scott Addict RC is equipped with a racing geometry that meets the needs of professional and sporty drivers who prefer a more aggressive position and very direct handling.

The new Scott Addict RC will be available in Fall 2019.

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
