Product news: Product News: Fizik Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969 – Retro meets Performance

July 9, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The Fizik Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969 is a special edition of the Fizik Tempo racing shoe as part of this year's Tour de France. They want to combine the classic style of the early 70s with the performance and technical know-how of today.

Fizik's mission is to offer the ultimate saddle, shoe, bartape and component design - combined with comfort and lightness, technology and innovation. Through physiological research, anatomical studies and advanced technological development, Fizik has managed to create this perfect combination. It is not for nothing that the name fi'zi:k is the phonetic spelling of the word physique, referring to the shape or condition of the human body.

All of this is also used in Fizik's latest boot. The main upper of the Fizik Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969 Shoe is made of Microtex suede and features larger perforation holes in a wider pattern than those of the Tempo Overcurve R5. The toe box is covered by a leather-look section of Microtex, which is punched in a zigzag pattern to evoke shoe-building techniques of the late 1960s and early 1970s. An elegant gold logo completes the retro look.

The Fizik Tempo Overcurve R5 Paris 1969 also features an offset collar that wraps around the ankle, replicating the natural alignment of the two bony prominences of the ankle. The result is an asymmetrical shape where the shoe curves from the outside in over the foot.

Closure is quick and secure, thanks to a micro-adjustable Boa IP1-B closure and Velcro strap for a finely tuned fit. The R5 nylon composite outsole is supple and comfortable enough for the longest rides, but without compromising pedaling performance.

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
