Product News: For the 2020 model year, Mavic introduces the new Deemax DH wheels, designed and built with the philosophy that the wheels should be unquestionably reliable and offer undeniable performance. The wheels were developed with the main goal of meeting the needs of the Mavic team riders. The test and development process was also revised so that this goal could also be achieved.
The DeemaxDH was developed, tested and further developed with the best downhill riders in the world. The first downhill race that year was at the Crankworx Festival where Brook MacDonald won the race on this wheelset.
Mavic Deemax DH 2020: New rim design
After the old Mavic Deemax DH wheels kept losing their shape under extreme loads, the Deemax DH 2020 wheels started on a blank sheet of paper. The rim design has been fundamentally changed and optimized. In contrast to the old rims, 2020 is going back to the rim flange in order to give the tire enough stability in the event of hard impacts. The cross-section also clearly shows the change to the triangular profile. This increases rigidity and distributes the load better.
Something has also changed with the spokes. Mavic goes back to J-Bend spokes, because in competition the spokes have to be exchanged quickly. But the hobby driver also benefits from this, because the lengths are also going towards common variants. The bike shop next door always has the right spokes in stock, just in case.
Mavic Deemax DH 2020: The edge is also new
Since most downhill (racing) drivers use a 7-speed cassette, this fact was used to drive the dimensions of the wheel hub into "gigantic". With a revolutionary 77mm flange distance, an even stiffer driving experience is achieved and lateral forces are counteracted even more.
The result of all these changes has been in use since the 2018 Downhill World Cup season. The last successes with the Mavic Deemax DH 2020 wheels were achieved in the Worldcup Les Gets by Laurie Greenland and Marine Cabirou.
