Product news: Product news: Fast Forward wheels with two teams at the Tour de France

July 7, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: As a sponsor of two teams, the wheel manufacturer Fast Forward will be at the start of this year's Tour de France. The teams Total Direct Energie and Areka Samsic, the team of the German Andre Greipel, will be on the road on the various Fast Forward wheels.

FFWD Wheels is represented at the Tour de France for the sixth time. They support two French Pro Continental teams, namely Total Direct Energie and Arkea-Samsic. Both teams came to the tour with a wild card and can now prove their skills.

The Total Direct Energie Team with Dutchman Nikki Terpstra has been supported by FFWD Wheels for two years. In recent years, Terpstra has won major cycling races such as the Tour of Flanders or Paris Roubaix. This year his team opted for FFWD carbon bikes with disc brakes. Compared to the commonly used rim brakes, cyclists enjoy the significantly improved braking performance of disc brakes, for significantly shorter braking distances. This advantage will be particularly noticeable in bad weather conditions or when going downhill.

Late last year, second team Arkea Samsic approached FFWD Fast Forward for a three-year sponsorship deal. With the German sprinter André Greipel and the French climber Warren Barquil, the team has two famous leaders. Greipel has won several stages of the Tour de France in the past. The 2-spoke front wheels of the Falcon model from FFWD are available to both cycling teams especially for time trials. The uniform spoke design with its special profile leads to an improved aerodynamic shape. Depending on personal taste and the type of stage (flat or mountain), the riders of both teams can choose between bikes F3, F4 and F6.

The Fast Forward F3 model is primarily suitable for hill climbs. This wheel type has 30 mm high rims and is lighter, so it offers a significant weight advantage on the mountain. The Fast Forward F4 has 45 mm high rims and is the all-rounder, suitable for flat stages and hill climbs. Thanks to its more robust construction, the F6 with 60 mm high rims is particularly suitable for sprints and flat stages.

Of course, the Fast Forward wheels are also available in the colors of the leadership jerseys.

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
