Bicycles without a motor have become rare, it seems – and so have moderately priced ones. No wonder, because what does not belong to the category of e-bikes is often sporty, light and expensive material or individually exotic. There doesn't seem to be much room left for classic trekking bikes. But at the Stadler two-wheeler center there is now a model that upholds the proven virtues of this genre, and for less than 500 euros - 488 to be exact. "Dynamics 10 Disc" is the name of the model, which is based on a solid aluminum frame and initially stands out because of its omissions: Instead of a suspension fork, a rigid fork is mounted, which is a good choice in this price range, especially if the bike is used permanently in everyday life and is strong is claimed. A very simple suspension fork is usually not very enjoyable when new due to limited travel and lack of damping - and after longer use it is no longer enjoyable if the fork starts to play and no longer responds well. In addition, this gives the bike a sporty, direct character that is quite pleasant. If you want, you can of course retrofit a suspension fork - you can tell that the frame is designed for it by the overall height of the mounted fork.

However, the Dynamics does have other typical features of the trekking bike category. A derailleur system with three chainrings at the front should not be missing; here they are combined with seven rings on the rear wheel hub. So 21 gears, which are not necessarily designed for maximum mountaineering, especially since the largest sprocket "only" has 28 teeth - but the gear ratio is quite closely graduated, which is very pleasant at a faster pace if you want to maintain an even pedaling frequency. The rear derailleur and front derailleur can be operated perfectly with the two buttons on the respective lever; if you want to get the smallest gear jump, you sometimes have to shift at the front and rear at the same time.
The cockpit represents a pleasant deviation from the typical trekking trim: the handlebars are strongly angled towards the driver and are therefore ergonomically shaped; the handles are also very well done. The posture of the arms and shoulders is therefore very relaxed, while the sitting position on the bike is quite sporty. A quick release allows easy adjustment of the saddle height; However, the seat post in particular seems to be of high quality and should be protected against theft. There is no need to worry about the wheels: they are attached with size 15 cap nuts.
In contrast to modern urban bikes, trekking bikes have always been equipped with rather narrow tires. 40 mm they measure on the 10 disc; The tires are equipped with a profile that combines smooth running with good grip on loose ground, as well as painted white rings, which of course do not really reflect - the spoke reflectors are therefore not superfluous.
Of course, a modern trekking bike should not be without a hub dynamo and disc brakes. The latter are controlled by a cable, not by oil pressure, which is noticeable during operation, but has no negative impact on the function. Of course, it should be noted that pad wear is not automatically compensated for - as with a mechanical rim brake, the tensile stress must be increased.

The Dynamics trekking bike is rounded off by a luggage rack that elegantly "floats" above the mudguard - instead of an inelegant connection to the seat stays, there is a reinforcement that is invisibly mounted under the mudguard. The rear light sits below the carrier and is optimally protected against damage.
Sure - even at Stadler there is no magic; the very low price of the 10 disc is due to the overall quite simple design of the material. However, since there is nothing wrong with the function and not everyone can and wants to spend a four-digit sum, the bike is definitely recommended for everyone who is looking for a solid trekking bike for tours and everyday use.
