Cycling: Maurice Ballerstedt won the silver medal in the juniors' European road race. The 18-year-old was able to prevail in the sprint of a three-man chasing group in the battle for second place.
EM road race of the juniors: home double victory
The Dutch women continued their dominance at the European Road Cycling Championships in Alkmaar on the third day of their home event. After winning gold medals in the elite and junior individual time trials, as well as the mixed relay, they added another gold medal to their collection in the first road race of these championships. Ilse Pluimers managed to break away from the peloton and maintain a four-second lead throughout the race. Her compatriot Sofie van Rooijen sprinted to silver behind her, securing a Dutch one-two finish. France's Kristina Nenadovic took bronze. The German-speaking riders had less to celebrate on the short 69-kilometer course. However, Judith Krahl was the best German , finishing in a respectable 19th place. Noëlle Buri was the top Swiss rider in 21st, and Marie Loschnigg was the best Austrian in 41st.

European Championship road race of the U23 women: 5th place for Franziska Koch
The Netherlands also won a medal in the U23 category. This time, 19-year-old Lonneke Uneken took bronze. Only the Italian winner Letizia Paternoster and silver medalist Marta Lach from Poland were faster over the 92-kilometer course. The German team also put in a strong performance, with 19-year-old Franziska Koch finishing fifth and Swiss rider Aline Seitz ninth.

EM road race for juniors: Maurice Ballerstedt sprints to silver
In the 115-kilometer junior European Championship road race, the German youngsters proved that we can expect to see some excellent riders in the coming years. Behind solo winner Andrii Ponomar from Ukraine, Maurice Ballerstedt sprinted from a three-man chase group to take second place. Behind Andrea Piccolo – who won the time trial a few days earlier – and Enzo Leijnse, Marco Brenner rounded out the strong German performance with a fifth-place finish.
