Cycling transfers: Tom Dumoulin joins Jumbo - Visma

August 19, 2019 by Michael Behringer

Dumoulin Tour de France Out

Cycling Transfers: Now it's official. Tom Dumoulin is leaving the German team Sunweb and will drive for the Dutch team Jumbo - Visma from the coming season. The Swiss team Katusha – Alpecin also loses its ranking driver. Ilnur Zakarin joins CCC.

Restructuring at Sunweb

A few days ago we could already see that there will be a restructuring in the Sunweb team. With the obligation of Nico Denz (AG2R La Mondiale) and Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar) the team is set up more for the classics. This development has now been confirmed by the signing of the contract Tiesj Benoot (Lotto – Soudal). The departure of Tom Dumoulin to Team Jumbo – Visma now completes the transformation of Team Sunweb. His new team is moving in a completely different direction. Jumbo – Visma gives along Danny van Poppel a strong sprinter and classic hunter, but receives a strong tour driver in the person of Tom Dumoulin. With Primoz Roglic, George Bennett, Laurens de Plus and Steven Kruijswijk he can fall back on strong helpers in the mountains there, but they will also have their own ambitions.

Cycling transfers: all transfers at a glance – status: 19.8.

The Katusha – Alpecin team also loses its ranking driver. The Russian Ilnur Zakarin – after all four times in his career in the top 10 of a Grand Tour – will join the CCC team. Surprisingly leaves Daniel Martin the UAE Team Emirates and signs with the Israel Cycling Academy. Davide formolo saw no future for himself in the German team Bora – hansgrohe and will join the UAE Team Emirates in future. The Movistar team has finally responded with cycling transfers. After the change from Enric Mas Nicolau (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) were announced a few days ago, the Astana duo has now also been signed Davide Villela and Dario Cataldo made clear.
