Giant Contender 2020: Sporty aluminum beginners

August 8, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: In times of cheap carbon bikes, aluminum frames seem to be pushed more and more into the background. Nevertheless, high-quality aluminum wheels have a right to exist, especially because of their durability and stability, and they play an important role, especially for beginners and price-conscious cyclists. With the Giant Contend model series, this target group is offered high-quality racers with a good price-performance ratio.

The Giant Contend model series

Aluminum frames are becoming increasingly rare, but well-known manufacturers continue to rely on aluminum, including Giant with the Contend models. The new series consists of the different models of the Contend and Contend AR series. Each racer is equipped with a lightweight aluminum frame that offers a balanced mix of safe, comfortable riding position and agile road holding and acceleration.

The Contend racing bikes were equipped with a specially developed frame geometry and performance-oriented components. In addition, the riders of the Contend benefit from the D-Fuse seat post technology for even better comfort. Furthermore, the models use Giant Tubeless System wheels and Giant tires. In addition to the tried and tested disc brake models, there is still the option of rim brakes.

Giant Contend - Aluxx aluminum frame

The new Giant Contend models are equipped with a light aluminum frame, which Giant calls Aluxx, and high-quality forks. The goal during development was to offer a balanced mix of safety, comfort, maneuverability and acceleration. The frames have the same features as Giant's high-end models. Among other things, they have the so-called OverDrive handlebar tube for precise cornering, the MegaDrive down tube for the rigidity of the frame, the PowerCore bottom bracket area for the best efficiency and power transmission and internal cable routing for a clean look and aerodynamic advantages.

The Giant Contend models 2020

The Giant Contend models 2020 are divided into Contend AR and Contend models. Both variants are intended for sporty drivers and anyone who wants to become one. With different specs, the racers adapt to the respective needs of the driver.

Giant Content AR

This new Giant Contend AR Series combines a smooth and responsive ride with the ability to handle rough roads and light gravel. The integration of the disc brake and additional tire clearance up to 38c are intended to provide additional safety and control on rough roads. The D-Fuse seat post skilfully absorbs rough impacts, ensures a more comfortable ride and minimizes fatigue. The series includes the models Giant Contend AR 1, Contend AR 2 and Contend AR 3.

Great tire clearance...
... makes life easier, even on rough ground.

Giant Content AR 1

The Giant Contend AR 1 is equipped with a complete Shimano 105 including Shimano discs. There are also Giant P-R2 wheels with 30mm rim height and Giant 32mm tubeless tires, plus there are Giant aluminum attachments. The Contend AR 1 is available for 1499 euros.

Giant Content AR 2

The Giant Contend AR 2 shines in a metallic blue look.

The Giant Contend AR 2 differs from the AR1 model only in the groupset. Here you rely on a 10-speed Shimano Tiagra with 160 disc brakes. The wheels here are the Giant S-R2 with 30mm rim height, tires and attachments are also from Giant, just like the AR1. The Contend AR 2 is available for 1199 euros.

The complete Tiagra group…
... should ensure smooth and long-lasting use.

Giant Content AR 3

The Giant Contend AR 3 is heavily influenced by the AR2, with Giant wheels, components, and tires. It features a 2×9-speed Shimano Sora drivetrain. The Contend AR 3 is designed for 999 Available in euros.

Giant Content

The Giant Contend series was specially developed for aspiring riders who are drawn to the streets. Reaction speed, comfort and safety are also important. Compared to the AR models, the Contend models have a slightly lower tire clearance of up to 28c. In the Contend series you bring the Contend 1 and Contend 3 with rim brakes.

Giant content 1

The Giant Contend 1 has a Shimano Sora 2×9-speed group. There are also Giant SR 3 wheels, D-Fuse seat post and Giant's own aluminum parts. The Contend 1 is available for 849 euros.
