Cycling: Jannik Steimle (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) has made the perfect start to his professional career. The 23-year-old signed his professional contract just four days ago. Now he immediately won his first professional race with the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen.
Steimle moves from Austria to Belgium
Traditionally, the professional teams accept interns in their squad in August. A so-called trainee or stagiaire is given a few weeks to prove himself in action. The team Deceuninck - Quick-Step knocked on the door of the Austrian Continental Team Vorarlberg - Santic. Jannik Steimle should be examined more closely. The German was allowed to start at the Brussels Cycling Classic and was happy about 20th place. The Belgian team particularly liked the fact how robust and tough the 23-year-old appears - because that's exactly what the classic team relies on. So it was decided to present Jannik Steimle with a professional contract for the next two years. He signed it four days ago. Only a few hours later he won the Textielprijs Vicht circuit race.
From intern to winner
Today, Friday, he thanked his new employer directly with his first professional victory. At the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen one-day race, he attacked shortly before the finish line out of a severely decimated peloton. As a soloist he left Timo Roosen and Dylan Groenewegen from the Jumbo – Visma team behind. A tailor-made start. Jannik Steimle's professional career could not have started any better.
