Van Avermaet is in top form

Greg Van Avermaet used the Montréal GP to put himself among the favorites for the World Championship. The Belgian Olympic champion did not let himself be distanced on the demanding course and even went on the offensive himself. In the last few meters he delivered a gripping sprint with classic puncheurs. Eventually he was able to overtake Italian Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates) and Spaniard Ivan Cortina (Bahrain – Merida). Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe), on the other hand, finished a few seconds behind the first group, as did Michael Matthews (Sunweb).
