Product news: Rapha and Gore-Tex start the autumn with a new partnership. In keeping with the bad weather at the moment, three new bad-weather cycling jackets are coming onto the market, which are intended to offer ambitious cyclists optimum protection from the cold and rain, even in extreme weather conditions.
The cycling clothing manufacturer Rapha and the functional fiber specialist Gore-Tex have decided to work together. The partnership is intended to be just the beginning of joint efforts in the area of long-term, market-leading product development. The first result of the cooperation comes in the form of three new bad-weather cycling jackets. With the help of Gore's most technically advanced waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex materials, riders should sit unimpressed in the saddle even in the most extreme weather conditions. The jackets were developed in cooperation with the WorldTour professionals from EF Education First Pro Cycling and Canyon-Sram Racing.
Pro Team Lightweight Jacket
The new Pro Team Lightweight jacket, which is available for both men and women, uses Gore-Tex Shakedry. The waterproof membrane is attached to the outside of the two-layer construction. The advantage of this material is that water simply rolls off the fabric. According to the manufacturer, the extremely breathable material allows intensive exertion without overheating - and is therefore ideal for the fast races of drivers at the professional level. With a weight of only 49 g/m², the Gore-Tex Shakedry material is also very light and allows an extremely small pack size. When folded, the jacket should only take up the space of half a jersey pocket. The Pro Team Lightweight jacket for men is available in the color anthracite, with a women-specific cut in basic black. The price is 260 euros each.
Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket
For colder weather, Rapha has the Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket ready. This also has Gore-Tex Shakedry, but also comes with PolarTec Alpha lining. The light synthetic filling offers a very good warmth-to-weight ratio. PolarTec Alpha is already used in some of Rapha's other warming products. In any case, Rapha is quite confident when presenting the Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket: “If the weather conditions are worse than what the Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket is made for, you better not ride at all.” The jacket is available in anthracite at a price of 375 euros.
Explore Gore-Tex Hooded Sweater
In contrast to the Pro Team Lightweight Jacket and Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket, the Rapha designers use Gore-Tex Active for the Explore Gore-Tex Hooded Pullover. The light three-layer material scores with a soft skin feel. The loose fit should in turn contribute to comfort and thus also allow the waterproof jacket to be worn in your free time. The breast pocket with mesh dividers on the inside offers storage space for smaller items. The balaclava with elastic closure can be worn with or without a helmet. The men's version is available in the colors Sky Captain, Potent Purple or Bright Marigold, the women's version only in Sky Captain. No matter what color or design, you have to invest 300 euros for the Explore Gore-Tex Hooded Pullover.
